Raziel Reid has won the $25,000 Governor General's Literary Award for his debut young adult novel When Everything Feels like the Movies
, becoming the youngest ever winner in the children's literature categories.
In awarding Raziel the prize, the jury reported:
"An edgy and uneasy story with no simple resolutions, Raziel Reid's When Everything Feels like the Movies
is unflinching. An openly gay teen in a small-minded town, Jude Rothesayís fantasy life is a movie but his real life isnít. He is audacious, creative, rude, often hilarious and sometimes heartbreaking. Heís unforgettable."
Raziel will be presented with the award at a ceremony in Ottawa on November 26. Congratulations, Raziel!
