Ivan Coyote's Tomboy Survival Guide is a finalist for the Writers' Trust of Canada Hilary Weston Prize for Nonfiction. Winner of the $60,000 award will be announced in Toronto on November 14; all of the finalists receive $5,000.

The jury called the book "an intimate, irreverent memoir about growing up transgender in a rigidly gendered world." It marks the tenth book collaboration between Ivan and Arsenal Pulp Press; it was also named an American Library Association Stonewall Honor Book, and was longlisted for the BC National Award for Canadian Nonfiction.

The other finalists are Kyo Maclear, Birds Art Life (Doubleday Canada); James Maskalyk, for Life on the Ground Floor: Letters from the Edge of Emergency Medicine (Doubleday Canada); Carol Off, All We Leave Behind: A Reporter’s Journey into the Lives of Others (Random House Canada); and Tanya Talaga, Seven Fallen Feathers: Racism, Death, and Hard Truths in a Northern City (House of Anansi Press).

Congratulations, Ivan!
