Claudia Casper's acclaimed novel The Mercy Journals won the Philip K. Dick Award for Distinguished Science Fiction at a ceremony in Seattle on April 12. The award is sponsored by the Philadelphia Science Fiction Society and the award ceremony is sponsored by the NorthWest Science Fiction Society.

The Mercy Journals is set thirty years in the future, in the wake of a third world war, whose protagonist is a former soldier named Mercy suffering from PTSD who searches for his long lost family.
